GONNELLA AND FOOD FOR FRIENDS

Local non-profit group provides Easter Dinner to Needy Families.

CHICAGO, IL. – One-hundred low income families from Elgin’s near-northeast side enjoyed Easter dinner courtesy of Food for Friends Sunday Evening. Food For Friends gave out dinner baskets containing ham, vegetables, Gonnella bread and dessert.

Dan Herzog, Quality Control Director of Gonnella’s Frozen Products Division, has been actively involved with Food for Friends for 14 years. Dan believes, "Giving back to the community is our (Gonnella) responsibility as a good corporate citizen."

Rising gas prices and the credit crunch have made it even more difficult for money-strapped citizens to afford the necessities in life. "We hope our participation with this cause as well as other worthy causes helps ease the burden in some small way," said Herzog.

Each Year Gonnella Baking Co. donates thousands of loaves of bread to various organizations that feed the needy. In addition to Food for Friends, Gonnella Baking Company supports The Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB). The NIFB is a local not for profit operating the largest Open Food Bank in the Chicagoland Region.

Founded in 1886, the Gonnella Baking Company produces over three million pounds of product weekly at three Chicago area facilities. As a high quality supplier for the in-store bakery and food service industries, Gonnella offers several product lines within the fresh baked, fresh baked frozen and frozen dough categories.
