Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle recently visited the Gonnella Baking Company's newly expanded Schaumburg, Ill. facility to congratulate the plant on creating 40 new full-time jobs. She was joined on her visit by Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson and Cook County Board Commissioner Tim Schneider.

Preckwinkle and her colleagues spent nearly an hour visiting with the staff and touring the plant, which recently completed a $5 million, 30,000-square-foot expansion. The expanded facility allows Gonnella to meet growing operational needs by adding additional freezer and dry storage space to accommodate more orders and facilitate increasing sales.

"We are thrilled to expand our plant in Cook County and give the community an opportunity to grow with us through new job opportunities," Gonnella Baking Company President Nick Marcucci said.

Gonnella has been doing business in Cook County for more than 125 years since it began as a bakery in Chicago in 1886. The Schaumburg facility was purchased in 1980 and is dedicated exclusively to producing frozen dough products, which are distributed to the in-store bakery industry nationwide. Today Gonnella is still family-owned and operated, and is one of the oldest companies to hold the distinction in Illinois.

President Preckwinkle's visit commemorated the Class 6B tax credit provided by Cook County, which helped facilitate the plant expansion, create jobs and enhance the local economy.

"By working with businesses to provide tax incentives, we are able to create new jobs while helping important, family-owned companies like Gonnella grow right here in Cook County," said Preckwinkle.
