Is Gonnella the oldest bakery in Chicago?

Alessandro Gonnella started his store front bakery on Chicago’s DeKoven Street in 1886. While it is true that Gonnella Baking Co. is now over 132 years old, we do not claim to be the oldest bakery in Chicago. The Chicago area holds a large  number of historic, long standing family operated food enterprises. We are proud to be counted among that wonderful group.
