Corporate Controller

Summary:
The Corporate Controller oversees all financial accounting for the company. Principal responsibility is to manage financial accounting function, ensure corporate accounting in at all times in accordance with GAAP and to oversee annual independent third party audits, including outside auditors. This position involves significant senior level exposure, including presentations before the company’s board of directors.

Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, training and mentor financial accounting department staff of up to 10 positions (divisional accounting, accounting operations, AP, AR)
  • Monitor and analyze period division financial report packages and ensure accurate accounting by divisional accounting
  • Consolidate division results on a period basis
  • Primary liaison for:
  • External auditors for the annual audit
  • Outside tax preparation including federal and SALT returns and other periodic filings
  • Business insurance renewal applications and carrier premium audits
  • Analyze intercompany transactions (sales/inventory/freight) on a period basis
  • Ensure company accounting procedures conform to GAAP
  • Maintain CIP analysis for the company and fixed asset system for the company
  • Maintain corporate level analysis of various balance sheet and expense accounts (Insurance, Workers Comp, Pension, Accounting and Professional Fees)
  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepare special analysis as required

Requirements:

  • Strong team-centric work ethic and ability to multi-task in a complex dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in prior positions, including strong referrals .
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP.  Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.  Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.  Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.  Working knowledge of budgeting and product-line profitability analysis.
  • B.S. in Accounting and aforementioned skills are normally acquired through a combination of the completion of a Masters in Finance or Accounting, five to ten years of experience in a senior–level finance or accounting position such as accounting manager, assistant controller or divisional controller.   A CPA designation is strongly preferred.
